We say: Named for the legendary University of Oregon Hayward Field track, this shoe replaces the Skylon. The Hayward is inspired by the Nike Free, with the pods of foam designed to move more independently with the foot. The upper sits on a full-length Zoom Air unit, which is firmer than the Air unit on page 106. The plastic arch bridge that sits above the midsole helps with heel-to-toe transition. Recommended as a trainer for biomechanically efficient runners or as a racing flat for runners with normal to high arches.
Wear-testers say: "A good distance racing shoe for half or full marathons." --Rick Grab, 31, Allentown
"The shoe's upper was the softest I've worn." --Nathan Usher, 23, East Lansing
