Runner's World Awards: Editor's Choice

We say: The original Pegasus was first introduced in 1983 and quickly became a defining shoe in this category. The women's version of this excellent shoe will now be built on a last designed to better fit a woman's foot. Nike updated the upper to provide a better arch fit, plus there's a new plug of foam in the heel to help the shoe maintain its cushioning longer. Our Shoe Lab tests found this update to be slightly softer than earlier versions. Recommended for light- to average-weight runners with normal to high arches looking for a soft shoe.

Wear Tester Reviews

Wear-testers say: "It's lightweight, and I loved how the waffle sole gripped the trails."-Berek Fiszlewicz, 57, San Diego

"It was stiff at first, but felt great after 50 miles."-Mark Gerber, 39, Allentown

Top of shoe (by end of tongue) cut into my foot for a month, until the shoes wore in. The ride is great, the style is sharp, but... ouch! Never had that problem with the old model..

I was happy when they brought back the Pegasus in 2000 as i ran in it before they changed it. Now they have changed it again. I am a neutral to underpronater, effecient runner and it was the best shoe, now in the new model i have knee and shin pain after each run..

Have worn air pegasus for years and loved them. This year, after 2 weeks of running in the new shoe, developed a sore bump on the top of my foot, which seems to have come from where the tongue has been double stitched, and in feeling that area inside the shoe, there is a definite lump of stitching that was not there with previous shoes. .

I have worn Air pegasus for years and was very disappointed in the 2005 model! For the first time ever, I know have feet and shin problems! I tried replacing the inserts with a more cushy one from store; but still am struggling with shin splints! Ran a 1/2 marathon in them today, and lowere legs ached terribly!.
