Runner's World Shoe Lab Test Results
The focus of this update is an improved ride, which comes from a new segmented heel that works with a piece of rubber over the heel crash pads (think box spring) to disperse impact forces no matter how the heel lands. The footbridge is now one piece (it had been two in the Triumph 4) to ease the transition from heel impact to toe-off. Our one complaint: The laces are too thin to provide a good fit, even with an arch wrap that connects the eyelets to the midsole. Recommended for runners with high arches who wear down their heels.
Wear Tester Reviews
"I liked the shoe's overall fit." --Louise Forsythe, 57, East Lansing

"Good support and cushioning, but the laces were hard to use." --Aron User, 28, East Lansing

"The shoe provided the proper amount of cushioning and support without feeling too heavy. This has been the first shoe I have worn in a while that did not cause blisters on my heels so I was very happy with the shoe." Karolyn Getzen, 24, East Lansing

I am in love with this shoe bacause it is a shoe for runner not for joggers. It is as thin as i need to run with speed an thik enough to run compfotable. The Mizuno Precition is to run very fast. The Mizuno Wave Rider to run comfortable in a long run and the Pro Grid Triumph 5 is exactly in between. I like it..

Overall the shoe feels great while running. The cushioning is perfect for my feet and has eliminated most of the joint pain in my knees. My only complaint is the laces - they are too thin. Aesthetically, I thought the shoes were pretty ugly when I bought them, but they have really grown on me in the last month..

I bought this pair of shoes about 4 weeks ago. This is a very light, cushy shoe. However, there were two significant problems I found with it. First, the shoe strings are very thin. After only 3 weeks (I run 45-50 mi. per wk.) one string completely wore down and split in two while I was running. The thin strings also make it hard to tie the shoe tight enough. Secondly, the tongue is so long and thick that it rubs the lower part of my leg while running, and the outer edges of the tongue (near the ankle) are so thick they dig into the top part of my foot. These are significant enough problems that I would not buy this shoe again. Especially at the $120 I paid for them..
