Runner's World Shoe Lab Test Results
The focus of this update is an improved ride, which comes from a new segmented heel that works with a piece of rubber over the heel crash pads (think box spring) to disperse impact forces no matter how the heel lands. The footbridge is now one piece (it had been two in the Triumph 4) to ease the transition from heel impact to toe-off. Our one complaint: The laces are too thin to provide a good fit, even with an arch wrap that connects the eyelets to the midsole. Recommended for runners with high arches who wear down their heels.
Wear Tester Reviews
"I liked the shoe's overall fit." --Louise Forsythe, 57, East Lansing

"Good support and cushioning, but the laces were hard to use." --Aron User, 28, East Lansing

"These shoes are very comfortable with the exceptional cushioning. It kept my feet (knees and back) happy even after 20-mile runs. I was impressed with the shoes mesh in the upper for superb breathability. I like the notch in the tongue to hold one's lacing knot in place. The arch-lock system is a great idea, but needs to be coupled with heftier laces." Andrew Grosvenor, 29, East Lansing

"While I'd like for the arch to be higher, I thought the breathability was great and I loved the lacing system." Mike Matulis, 32, East Lansing

I found the Saucony triumph 5 to be good overall, but I felt very poor motion energy half way through the gait and the toe off kind of unpleasant as if my fore foot stayed to the ground.. Good for low pace runs as the heal is well protected..

Write out of the box, these shoes were great. Really absorb impact well and kept my legs fresh even after long runs. Arch lock gives it a nice stable feel but remains very breathable. Laces are a little thin but seem to do the job..
