We Say: The Span hadn't been updated in four years, which essentially makes this a new shoe. Nike used a new last (foot form) for a more snug fit that better wraps the forefoot. The shoe's "split" heel design features a softer crash pad that disperses impact and works with a firmer medial post to slow the rate of pronation. The women's model sports a roomier forefoot and a beveled heel, while the men's uses a semirigid sockliner to better support the foot. We recommend the Span for average-weight runners with normal arches.
Wear-testers Say: "It was flexible but needed more support and heel cushioning."--Wendy Hamilton, 27, East Lansing
"The shoe felt great--quite lightweight and stable."--Peter Butler, 45, San Diego

These are the best pair of trainers I have ever worn. I have put over 600 miles on them and they are still alive and well. The cushioning is excellent and I found a perfect balance between flexibility and stability. .
