First, the outsole under the heel has more flex grooves to better isolate and disperse impact. Mizuno also widened the Wave plate for added cushioning in the heel, softened it through the arch, and firmed it up on the sides to better guide the foot as it moves through the gait cycle. I started getting achilles bursitis not long after starting running in these, even though my running routine had not changed significantly. Everything depends on preference, but I am leary of buying another pair of mizunos now..
