History of Event In 1995, Joann created The Joann Gaddy Grimes Big Event to Fight Cancer. She wanted to give back, in gratitude, for having been successfully treated for breast cancer in 1985 at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. Now, as a 22-year survivor, she continues to be motivated to help people with all types of cancer. Understanding that nearly every family has been touched by cancer, Joann and countless volunteers are working toward that day when cancer will become a manageable disease and not the killer so many people fear. Activities 2 Bike Rides - 28M and 100K USATF Certified 5K Run - Prizes awarded 2.5K Fun Walk - Strollers, dogs and wheelchairs are welcome.
