Whether it's the darkness or the cold keeping them inside, these runners put in most of their weekly miles on a treadmill. These three items will make life on the Habitrail more interesting.

1) Adidas Fusion Sleeveless Tee: and polar wear link transmitter This moisture-wicking shirt works with a Polar transmitter to track heart rate and display it on a Polar RS 800 SD watch. $65; adidas-polar.com

2) Apple iPod Nano: The easiest, sleekest, and lightest way for treadmillers to bring 1,000 songs on a run. And the music lasts as long as their legs do, thanks to batteries that go strong for 24 hours. $199 (4 GB version); apple.com

3) Tivo Series 3 HD Box: Your hamster will need to be very good to earn this high-priced TV recorder. It can record two shows at once and hold 32 hours of high-def or 300 hours of the standard stuff. $800; tivo.com
