Nine jog bras that earn our support.

By Amy Gorin

PUBLISHED 06/28/2005

When did buying a jog bra get so complicated? These days, choices run from crop tops to tanks, camis to shimmels. Then come the options: pockets, zippers, seamless construction, and antimicrobial fabrics. And whichever bra you choose, it needs to provide optimal support and a perfect fit. No wonder most women select the wrong bra. So we asked Making Strides, an all-women running group in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to put the latest jog bras to the test. These women rated 19 bras in six categories: support, moisture control, chafing, styling, comfort, and features offered. A list of their nine favorites follow.

A. Hind Skinny Bra Top $38
One of two reversible bras that rated high with our wear-testers, this bra gives you the choice of a solid color or a pattern. And an asymmetrical back provides even more style. But this bra isn't just cute. It's seamless and offers superior comfort and moisture control. Sizes: S to L Best if you are: S; hind.com; 800-952-4463

B. Nike Sweat Beauty Reversible Sport Top $45
The Sweat Beauty's two-layer seamless design offers built-in support while a textured pattern helps to minimize the see-through factor. The slit opening in the back allows for ease of movement and optimal ventilation. Sizes: XS/S to L/XL Best if you are: XS to M; nikewomen.com; 877-533-6453

C. Moving Comfort's Maia Bra $40
You'll want to wear the Maia even when you're not exercising, yet it earned top marks for support and fit. The opening in the back makes it easy to put on and take off, while the hook-and-eye closure system allows for a truly customized fit. Sizes: 32C to 44DD Best if you are: M to XXL; movingcomfort.com; 800-763-6000

D. Champion's Double Dry Cotton Racer Back Bra Top $30
This is the first cotton bra available that keeps moisture away, impressing one tester: "There aren't too many bras that can wick away my moisture." The top also provides superior motion control for larger runners. Sizes: S to XL Best if you are: M to XL; championusa.com; 800-999-2249

E. Mountain Hardwear's Stamina Double Bra $50
Each of the Stamina's two layers has its own adjustable straps. The result is top-notch support and a great fit. The design also garnered high marks for looks. "The two layers were attractive and fun," one tester said. Sizes: XS to L Best if you are: XS to M; mountainhardwear.com; 800-953-8375
