DETERMINING THE ENTRY FEE FOR YOUR RACE

PUBLISHED 06/04/2008

Entry fees vary by type of event, distance and location. Below is a good range of entry fees from around the country. It makes sense to look at past events in your area to determine how much to charge.

Remember that entry fees paid by runners usually won't cover your total costs. In order to generate profit, you'll need to solicit funds from other sources, such as donations and sponsorships.

The entry fees below are based on providing runners with a t-shirt. If you don't provide a t-shirt or some other memento of the race, your fee can be a few dollars less. If you have a surcharge for online registration and can't absorb that yourself, you may pass that on to your runner, but be sure to note that at the time of registration. Conversely, if you want to encourage online registration, you can offer a discount. In order to discourage race day registration and the hassles that go along with it, you may add an additional fee for registering past a certain date or on race day.

Race Length
5K: Pre-Registered $10-15, On-Site $15-20

10K: Pre-Registered $12-20, On-Site $18-25

Half Marathon: Pre-Registered $25-40, On-Site $40-60

Marathon: Pre-Registered $50-75, On-Site $75-100

Ultra Marathon: Pre-Registered $60-75, On-Site $75-100
