04/13/2007 KASTOR IS READY FOR BOSTON

She's ended running droughts, broken records, brought home an Olympic medal and now hopes to capture the Boston laurels

PUBLISHED 04/13/2007

Kastor - who is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at the Red Sox game on Saturday - ended a 20-year U.S. drought by winning a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympic marathon and ended an 11-year stretch without a major marathon victory by a U.S. woman when she won in Chicago in 2005. And then she became the first American woman to break 2:20 with her London triumph in 2006. Now Kastor, who was actually born at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, states that for Monday's Boston Marathon "we have gotten in the hill work. I've always felt confident on the hills, but more so now that we've run them on pavement with this specific course in mind."
