You all know about Boston Billy and the Elder and Younger Johnny Kelleys and pioneering Kathrine Switzer, but the Boston marathon's history, stretching back to the end of the 19th century, has many lesser known incidents of valor and misadventure. There's the year a freight train interrupted the race ... and the time Doberman Pinschers helped revive an ailing John A. Kelley ...and the time horse manure had to be cleared from the course at the last minute to avert disaster. And THAT incident was in the 21st century.
