03/15/2007 JOHN HANCOCK ANNOUNCES BOSTON TEAM

Kastor, Jeptoo, and Cheruiyot ready to take on the elite field on April 16th

PUBLISHED 03/15/2007

The women's field for the April 16 marathon includes American record holder and 2006 London champion Deena Kastor, Boston's defending titlist Rita Jeptoo, and two-time ING New York City champion Jelena Prokopcuka, who was runner-up to Jeptoo in Boston last April. Robert K. Cheruiyot, who set a new Boston record of 2:07:14 in 2006 and also triumphed in Chicago, is back to race against 2006 New York City runner-up Stephen Kiogora and Robert Cheboror, whose 2:06:23 from Amsterdam in 2004 is the fastest time in the field. These are among the 25 members of principal sponsor John Hancock's "Elite team," a list does that does not even include top American entrants like Peter Gilmore.
