11/3/2006 ARMSTRONG TO BE PACED BY SALAZAR, SAMUELSON, AND EL GUERROUJ

Will getting a little help from some friends help Lance meet his sub-three hour marathon goal?

PUBLISHED 11/03/2006

It was in the rumor stage for awhile and now it's apparently true. The seven-time Tour de France winner will be paced for the first ten miles by three-time New York City Marathon king Alberto Salazar, the next ten by 1984 Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson, and six more miles after that by 2004 Olympic 1500/5000 double gold medalist Hicham El Guerrouj. "I wouldn't do it for anybody else," states Salazar, the last American winner of the New York City Marathon, way back in 1982. "I just wanted to spend some time with him."
