10/20/2006 WILL THE CHICAGO MEN'S RACE BE A RERUN OF APRIL IN BOSTON?

Cheruiyot and Maiyo will do battle again, but it's not just a two-man race

PUBLISHED 10/20/2006

In the 2006 Boston Marathon, Robert Cheruiyot took command in the second half to claim the Patriots' Day laurels, and Benjamin Maiyo took the runnerup spot. Cheruiyot and Maiyo will duel again at the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon on Sunday, this time for a $125,000 first prize, but it's hardly a two-man race. Ask Daniel Njenga, who's placed in the top three in Chicago four times. Ask John Yuda of Tanzania. Ask ... a lot of people, who will earn a lot more than $125,000, thanks to bonuses, if they win and run faster than 2:06.
